Expert guest, Lisa Gunter, PhD discusses her research with Erica Feuerbacher, PhD on the physiological and behavioral effects of shelter dog sleepovers and field trips. While fostering a dog outside of the shelter is often a great practice, it’s a tall ask for most community members. But who wouldn’t want to borrow a dog for an afternoon? This study, which is currently ongoing, is testing whether these shorter field trips can be effective at helping dogs get through the shelter experience while also increasing community engagement. Special thanks to Maddie’s Fund for their grant support of this important study.
